Machine details

A QCW (quasi-continuous wave) laser spot welder is defined by high peak power with low average power. It emits millisecond-long pulses whose peak power can be several times the average - enough to form a weld pool instantly - while the gaps between pulses give heat time to spread and cool, so thin sheet does not burn through and distortion stays low. That is precisely what advertising letters, lighting fixtures and thin sheet metal need.

The Zhongyi QCW series runs at 1080 nm +/-5 with pulse frequency adjustable from 1 to 300 Hz, in two form factors. Briefcase models: 0420QE (12 kg, 400 W peak / 200 W average, 0.2-0.8 mm thickness, 4 J per 10 ms), 0630QE (13 kg, 600 W / 300 W, 0.3-1.5 mm, 6 J per 10 ms, air cooled), and 1030QE (14.5 kg, 1000 W / 300 W, 0.3-2.0 mm, 10 J per 10 ms, 100 um fiber core, customizable).

Handheld models: 1030EF (30 kg, 1000 W / 300 W, air cooled), 1570EF (32 kg, air cooled) and 2080EW (81 kg, 20 J per 10 ms, water cooled). Handheld suits large workpieces and on-site installation, with an 8-inch touchscreen and optional wire feed; briefcase models win on portability for moving between stations and field repair work.

Select on two axes: thickness first (up to 0.8 mm, the 0420QE is enough; around 1.5 mm, the 0630QE; 2.0 mm, the 1030QE or a handheld EW model), then working style (fixed bench means briefcase, large or on-site parts mean handheld). If you are unsure, send samples - we weld them at our Dongguan factory and return the welded parts together with video.

Why this machine class

Every point below is a checkable fact, not an unprovable promise.

  • High-speed galvanometer scanning: fast, strong interference rejection, and a stable mark path over long runs.
  • Integrated frame with high rigidity; changing a job means editing parameters, not dismantling the machine.
  • Non-contact processing: no tool wear, clean and permanent marks that do not fade.
  • Software imports DXF / PLT / BMF / AI / JPG artwork, editable on the PC before marking.
  • Batch import from TXT / Excel, with automatic serial numbers, production dates, QR codes and barcodes.
  • No consumables and low maintenance cost; the optical module is an industrial part whose service life is defined by its datasheet.
  • Quiet operation with virtually no dust, suitable for 24-hour continuous running (a constant-temperature chiller keeps energy output stable).
  • Precisely controlled single-pulse energy: thin sheets weld without burn-through and the spot needs no finishing.
  • Programmable weld paths; spot, continuous and sweep welding switch inside the same software.

Questions

Buyer questions

Why does QCW welding avoid burn-through on thin sheet?

Because peak and average power are decoupled. QCW emits millisecond-long pulses whose peak power is several times the average, forming a weld pool instantly, while the gaps between pulses let heat diffuse and cool - keeping total heat input controlled. Compared with continuous-wave welding, which supplies heat continuously, QCW has lower total heat input and a smaller heat-affected zone, so even 0.2 mm sheet gets clean, burn-through-free spots.

For advertising letters and lighting, briefcase or handheld?

It depends on whether the workpiece can be brought to the bench. Advertising letters and lighting parts are mostly thin-gauge assemblies; if they can be worked on a bench, the briefcase models (0420QE/0630QE/1030QE, 12-14.5 kg) are lighter, steadier and give more consistent spots, and move easily between stations. If the part is installed or too large - a big lighting frame or an on-site sign - a handheld (1030EF/1570EF/2080EW) is required. Wavelength and pulse parameters are the same, so weld quality is comparable; the difference is form factor and power ceiling.

What materials can a QCW welder handle?

Mainly thin metal sheet: stainless steel, carbon steel, galvanized sheet and aluminium alloys, covering advertising letters, lighting, hardware and DIY work. The 1080 nm wavelength is well absorbed by metals. Highly reflective metals such as copper and aluminium need higher peak power and careful tuning; dissimilar joints (copper to steel, for example) require process validation first. Send samples and we will actually weld them to verify seam strength and appearance before confirming suitability.
