Machine details

A fiber laser marking machine operates at 1064 nm, a wavelength metals absorb efficiently, so marking is a thermal process: the surface layer takes in the energy, heats rapidly, and melts or vaporizes to form the mark. The Zhongyi ZY-Fiber uses a MOPA (Master Oscillator Power Amplifier) architecture with independently adjustable pulse width - the single most important difference from an ordinary Q-switched fiber marker.

Adjustable pulse width pays off in two ways. First, on stainless steel you can control heat input to grow oxide films of different thicknesses, and thin-film interference produces black, gold, blue and red marks - MOPA's signature capability, where a standard fiber marker can only produce grey-black. Second, a narrow pulse width with high peak power produces light-coloured marks on plastics without burning the edges or carbonizing the material.

On specifications, the ZY-Fiber spans 20 W to 200 W with scan speeds up to 7000 mm/s and marking depth to 2 mm, covering mould lettering and deep engraving on hardware where real material removal is required. The source is rated at 100,000 hours and is air cooled, so it suits continuous 24-hour lines. Field lenses are matched to part size, and a rotary axis handles 360-degree marking on cylindrical parts.

Selection guide: 20-30 W covers most shallow black marking and colour oxidation on metals; 50 W and above suits high-tact lines and deep engraving; 100-200 W is for high-volume deep engraving and very fast cycles. If your materials are mainly glass, plastics or wafers, look at the UV series instead - the thermal effect of 1064 nm on those materials causes yellowing and distortion.

Why this machine class

Every point below is a checkable fact, not an unprovable promise.

  • High-speed galvanometer scanning: fast, strong interference rejection, and a stable mark path over long runs.
  • Integrated frame with high rigidity; changing a job means editing parameters, not dismantling the machine.
  • Non-contact processing: no tool wear, clean and permanent marks that do not fade.
  • Software imports DXF / PLT / BMF / AI / JPG artwork, editable on the PC before marking.
  • Batch import from TXT / Excel, with automatic serial numbers, production dates, QR codes and barcodes.
  • No consumables and low maintenance cost; the optical module is an industrial part whose service life is defined by its datasheet.
  • Quiet operation with virtually no dust, suitable for 24-hour continuous running (a constant-temperature chiller keeps energy output stable).
  • 1064 nm fibre laser is highly absorbed by metals, giving deep, high-contrast marks suited to deep engraving.
  • 20-200 W power ladder on one platform covers marking and light cutting.

Questions

Buyer questions

For deep engraving on metal nameplates, how do you control depth at different power levels?

Depth is set by single-pulse fluence combined with the number of passes; power is only one factor. Procedure: fix frequency and scan speed, then step power up in 10% increments until visible material removal appears. After that, each extra hatch pass adds depth roughly linearly. Higher power removes more per unit time, but too much causes slag buildup and rough edges. The ZY- Fiber reaches 2 mm; for deep engraving use 50 W or above with low frequency, slow speed and air assist.

With a rotary axis, can it mark cylindrical parts 360 degrees?

Yes. A rotary axis converts angular motion into linear travel, and with the software's cylinder-unwrap function you can mark rings, pen barrels and tubes continuously. The critical setting is pulses-per-revolution matched to the actual part diameter - a mismatch stretches the artwork or offsets the seam. The ZY-Fiber accepts a rotary fixture; send the real diameter with your sample and we will verify seam alignment in the sample video.

Can a fiber laser produce black marks on anodised aluminium?

Yes - this is one of the most mature fiber applications. Anodised aluminium carries a porous oxide layer; 1064 nm laser energy selectively removes or modifies that layer, exposing the base aluminium or forming a black absorbing layer, giving high-contrast black marks without destroying the corrosion resistance of the anodised layer. The energy must stay within the oxide layer instead of cutting into the aluminium base, which needs MOPA's narrow pulse width with moderate frequency. Send a sample and we will verify blackness and abrasion resistance.

For mould deep engraving, fiber or UV?

Fiber. Deep engraving is high-removal-rate thermal processing; metals absorb 1064 nm far more efficiently than 355 nm, and the ZY-Fiber reaches 2 mm. UV's strengths are fineness and cold processing, which make it uneconomical and slow for deep work. Consider UV only when you need extremely fine characters (around 0.1 mm) at shallow depth; for standard mould numbering and cavity lettering, fiber is the default.
